Mashriqi, the Eastern system, is the default on every tool. Where a word contains س, ص, ض, ظ, غ or ش, the Maghribi total differs and both figures are shown side by side. Short vowel marks are ignored, taa marbuta counts as 5, alif maqsura counts as 10, and a standalone hamza (ء) is not counted unless you tick the option to count it as 1.

Frequently Asked Questions
Are these tools free to use?
Yes. Every tool on this site is free, needs no account, and has no usage limit. Results can be copied, printed or saved directly from the calculator.
Which system do the tools use by default?
Mashriqi, also called the Eastern system, is the default because it is the most widely used order in Ilm-ul-Adad. The Maghribi, or Western, total is shown alongside it whenever the two differ.
Why can the same name give two different totals?
Three reasons. The first is spelling, since adding or removing a single letter changes the sum. The second is the system, because six letters carry different values in Mashriqi and Maghribi. The third is whether a standalone hamza is counted. Every tool shows the text it counted and names the system used, so the difference is always traceable.
Do these tools predict anything?
No. These are calculation and reference tools. They report the numeric values that a traditional letter number system assigns to text. They are not used for prediction, and no outcome is claimed or implied.
